The National Park Foundation (NPF) recently announced that it awarded Apostle Islands National Lakeshore a grant in the amount of $11,000 as part of its Park Stewards Grants program.  This grant will provide high school teachers with immersive training throughout the summer at the park, where they will learn about the park's mission, resources and responsibilities of staff which will eventually help the teachers develop service projects and educational tools for the upcoming school year.

This grant will develop a demonstration program focused on the physics of lighthouses to supplement the physics curriculum for light and sound, continue to develop curriculum for studying the chemistry of methyl mercury, and encourage additional independent study by students seeking to compete in regional and national science competitions.
