Why We Cherish Wisconsin

Dear Friends,

Wisconsin is truly a special place, and I wanted to show you a few (of the many) reasons why it's important to me: the food, the great outdoors, and our desire to help others.

Wisconsin Pancakes: Saturday mornings are an important to our family. With so many people on the go, it's one of the rare times in the week we can sit down and catch up.

Rachel and I recently had six assistant chefs to help cook one of our favorite family recipes for those Saturday mornings: lemon ricotta pancakes! We all know pancakes are great to begin with, then when you top them off with Wisconsin ricotta cheese, Wisconsin blueberries, and Wisconsin maple syrup? Downright delicious!

Celebrating Our Lumberjacks! Aside from the food, the great outdoors is one of the biggest reasons we all to live in Wisconsin. Skiing, fishing, hunting, kayaking... even lumberjack games! At the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, I was proud to announce my resolution to name the Lumberjack Bowl in the National Registry of Historical Places!

Our Wisconsin heritage deserves to be preserved and passed down to our children and grand children. Click HERE or the image below to watch the video from the Championships!

Helping To Find Answers: Last fall, more than 100 Lac Courte Oreilles members petitioned me about a major mold problem on the reservation. After hearing from so many concerned people and personally walking through some homes that were impacted by the dangerous mold, I became convinced that we must work together to find out what happened with the money that was supposed to go to mold remediation.

That's why I recently held a bipartisan field hearing on the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, along with Wisconsin Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Wisconsin Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner. The members of LCO deserve answers. I told those in attendance at the hearing that if there's more money that's needed to take care of these homes, I'm going to fight to get more money. But I want to make sure first, that the money that we're sending is being spent well, and I don't, and I am nowhere near, convinced that that's the case. I am hopeful that we will get to the bottom of this issue once and for all so that people do not have to live in conditions like these.
