It's Not Fair To Americans

Dear Friends,

I hope you're having a good week. I wanted to catch you up to speed on some important legislation that I've been working on...

Time To Level The Playing Field On Trade

I say this all the time because it's true: American workers, farmers, and manufacturers are the hardest-working, most innovative people in the world. And if they're given a level playing field, they can compete and win against anyone.

But right now, they are not playing on a level playing field. The current trading system allows other countries easy access to our market, but steep tariffs for theirs. This puts our workers, farmers, and manufacturers at an unnecessary disadvantage.

Another way to put it, our current system is neither free nor fair trade. Why should Americans have to compete economically with one arm tied behind their backs?

It's time for real reform.

That's why earlier this week, I introduced a bill to help level the playing field. The U.S. Reciprocal Trade Act would give the President the tools to impose tariffs on other nations up to the level that they impose tariffs on us.

These other nations, like China, India, the European Union and more, have treated the American economy as their piggy bank for so long, why would they bother coming to the negotiating table? These new tools are badly needed to get them to negotiate with us, and have the inherent goal for everyone to LOWER their tariffs.

Check Out The Details

I also recently wrote a piece in the Washington Examiner about why American workers deserve the U.S. Reciprocal Trade Act. It spells out in detail some of the outrageous tariffs that other nations unfairly impose on us.
