Important to remember this holiday season

Dear Friends,

If all the snow in northern Wisconsin weren't enough of a reminder, we are smack-dab in the middle of the holiday season. We love this time of year because we are reminded of our many gifts: fellowship with our loved ones, the opportunity to give back to our community, and the freedom to celebrate our faith.

While this is certainly a special time of year, it's important to remember that while we celebrate (and when we are nestled all snug in our beds, while visions of sugar-plums danced in our heads!), there are thousands and thousands of United States service members and local first responders like cops, firefighters, and EMTs who protect our safety and defend our freedoms.

Please take a moment this holiday season to thank one of these heroes for their service.

One incredible service member that I'd like to bring to your attention today is Amery's own, Navy Aviation Support Equipment Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer Kyle Fowler. He was recently awarded Sailor of the Year of the USS John C. Stennis.

This is no small feat. Consider the context. Fowler won Sailor of the Year through a rigorous screening process on an incredibly large vessel.

  • The Stennis, and its 3,000 person crew, is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that "conducts sustained air operations, maritime interdiction, counter-piracy operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief."
  • And The Amery Free Press noted that, “Fowler was chosen through a demanding screening process that looked at each Sailor’s involvement in the command during the last fiscal year as well as an oral board that tested Sailors’ knowledge on rules and regulations.”

Well done, 2nd Class PO Fowler! Wisconsin is proud of your accomplishments, and we thank you for your service.
